In just a few hours, Jared McCain will officially be an NBA player. The former Duke Blue Devils star is set to be selected in Wednesday night’s first round of the 2024 NBA Draft, having the chance to be a lottery pick. And if anyone in the green room was going to bring the fashion, it was going to be McCain.
While talking with the NBA Today crew in Brooklyn, McCain explained the outfit he was wearing. He was wearing just one color with some jewelry to go with it all. A nice combination for McCain before his name is likely called by Commissioner Adam Silver.
“Went with black nail polish, nothing too crazy,” McCain said. “All black suit, Dolce and Gabanna, and some colorful jewelry… nothing too crazy, just wanted to keep it simple.”

In the final mock draft from On3’s James Fletcher, McCain is projected to go No. 16 overall to the Philadelphia 76ers, missing out on the lottery by one spot. McCain getting picked would mean Duke has had a first-round pick for four consecutive seasons, split down the middle between Mike Krzyzewski and Jon Scheyer leading the program.
Teammate Kyle Filiposwski is expected to hear his name called on Wednesday too.
None of the previous guys were likely as well-dressed as McCain, though. Somebody you expected to bring a great outfit to the Barclays Center, the former Duke star certainly delivered.
What NBA Draft experts are saying about Jared McCain
Heading into the NBA Draft, On3’s James Fletcher gave his scouting report on McCain, listing him as the No. 14 prospect on the top 40 big board.
Fletcher described McCain as an “all-around player” having great moments this past season on offense and defense. The shooting numbers are something teams are going to enjoy as well, looking good from deep and at the free-throw line. A potential steal in the middle of the first round for whoever winds up drafting him.
“Jared McCain emerged in the Duke backcourt this season among several players looking to build their NBA Draft stock,” Fletcher said. “His balance of offensive production and defensive stability helped an NCAA Tournament run. The 6-foot-3 guard shot 41.4% from 3 and 88.5% on free throws, all while demonstrating his ability to play both spots. His five rebounds per game also boost his stock as an all-around player.”
