26-year-old responsible for string of hoax calls reporting explosives, cops say

A Bergen County man was arrested in New York after being charged with making a series of false threats, including fake sightings of people with weapons and explosives, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced Wednesday.

Authorities said Johnson was responsible for a series of anonymous hoax phone calls and emails sent in the early months of 2024 to crises centers, local businesses and law enforcement agencies regarding individuals with deadly weapons and explosives.

Johnson allegedly made false reports in January, March and April through phone calls and emails to law enforcement agencies in Franklin Lakes, Paramus, Wyckoff, Maywood, Fair Lawn, Fort Lee and Bergenfield, investigators said .

Johnson was arrested in Queens, New York on Wednesday with the assistance of the New York City Police Department and Department of Homeland Security, officials said. He remains in the Queens County Jail awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

An attorney for Johnson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
