'That interest is concrete'...Rangers looking good in £4.5m transfer scenario

There will be few recruitment directors busier than Rangers own Nils Koppen this summer as he sets about one of the biggest turnovers of players since Dick Advocaat swept into Glasgow.

Five players have already left, as many as 10 could leave in total with Philippe Clement having secured four new players already with a fifth in Hamza Igamane said to be imminent.

As well as bringing in new players, selling those who could bring in money for replacements or who won’t be guaranteed to start will be key with the latest report on Cyriel Dessers suggesting that Rangers won’t be short of offers.

Cyriel Dessers has plenty of suitors for potential Rangers exit

After the Scottish Cup semi-final against Hearts earlier this year, the manager gave an insight into why he might be willing to say goodbye to the Belgian born Nigeria international:

“He’s too nice – as a person and sometimes in the duels as well. It was better today. He kept the ball, was strong and scored good goals. But there is work to do on being more of a killer but if you see the progress he’s made in the last six months.”

Dessers is something of an enigma.

His numbers are more than respectable in that he contributed to 30 goals last season, however, there were too many big misses in big games.

No player in Scotland missed more big chances.

Teams always need players who can score goals though and it would appear that he has done enough to peak the interest of more than a few potential suitors.

According to David Edgar speaking on the Daily Update for the 26 of June, Dessers is a player in demand:

“We spoke about the interest from PAOK Salonika, that interest is concrete, they’ve spoken about it in the Greek media but he’s also being chased by a number of other clubs.

“He has options from sides in Italy, you’ll remember that he came to us from Cremonese, that’s where he played before, and options in both Belgium and Holland.

“So, several clubs interested in Cyriel Dessers.”

Dessers sale could help fund Rangers targets

Dessers cost Rangers over £4.5m so anything close to this would be a bonus in terms of being able to reinvest funds.

Albion Rrahmani has been linked for most of the summer and it would be an upgrade to have a younger and more dynamic striker available to Philippe Clement to rotate with Danilo and, possibly, Hamza Igamane.

This is the sort of business that Koppen must master.

One out, one in, but improve the squad at the same time.

Having as many clubs interested should make his job that little bit easier.
