Report: West Ham ready to push for striker who impressed Thierry Henry, scouts watched him score this week

West Ham United are looking to continue their bright start to this summer’s transfer window with the addition of a new striker.

A new era is upon West Ham with David Moyes having now departed the London Stadium following the end of the campaign.

Julen Lopetegui has got the Irons’ summer window up and running with the signing of Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham.

And it seems the Hammers are not looking to slow down any time soon as they now look at improving their options at the top end of the pitch with a new striker.

West Ham have strikers on their summer radar

Goals coming from strikers was an issue for the Hammers last season with Moyes having to rely on his other forwards to provide the goods.

Jarrod Bowen is West Ham’s obvious threat at the top end of the pitch but Mohammed Kudus was also a big boost to their attacking threat.

But West Ham will feel there require an upgrade on the likes of Michail Antonio if they are to continue the fight to secure European football having enjoyed success in recent seasons.

According to GiveMeSport, West Ham are considering upping the ante in the race for Lille striker Jonathan David.

A number of other clubs are believed to be looking at the Canada international this summer with Tottenham Hotspur also credited with an interest.

West Ham scouts were in attendance for Canada’s victory over Peru where they were left pleased as David scored the winning goal.

However, the report does also claim West Ham also have an eye on Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku as a potential alternative to the Canadian striker.

Thierry Henry left impressed by Jonathan David

Going into the summer, David has just one year remaining on his current contract at Lille where he has spent the last four years.

The Canadian striker has certainly settled in to life in France having ended the 2023/24 campaign with a return of 26 goals across all competitions.

His performances have been to a level which have even seen legendary striker Thierry Henry wax lyrical about him.

“When you have a player like Jonathan David, who runs the way he does, in behind,” Henry said on CBS Sports back in 2022.

“His directness. Don’t ask him to come to play or assist because he has none this season.

“If he sees the centre-back dropping, then he will go in behind. But as soon as he sees there is a gap, he will run and he is also pretty strong too and he loves contacts.”
