Aaron Ramsdale left impressed by something 'important' former Arsenal star did at Euro 2012

England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has now shared his reaction to a goal scored by one former Arsenal star at Euro 2012.

Arsenal ace Aaron Ramsdale is currently in Germany, as part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad competing at Euro 2024.

The Three Lions have endured a difficult start to the tournament. Whilst England have qualified for the knockout rounds of the competition, as group winners, performances have been very uninspiring.

The press have criticised Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice for his displays, and whilst Arsenal fans feel that Bukayo Saka has been able to show flashes of quality, the 22-year-old winger has not been able to shine as brightly as he so often does for the North London club.

Meanwhile, Ramsdale has not yet played a minute at the tournament, and is unlikely to as Jordan Pickford is the established first choice pick between the sticks for the national team. However, the 5-cap international can still play an important role in the dressing room and behind the scenes.

The Arsenal shot-stopper recently joined England teammates Eberechi Eze, Ollie Watkins, and Trent Alexander-Arnold in looking back on some iconic England goals from past European Championships.

Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale lauds Danny Welbeck strike

Amongst the goals that the England quartet considered, as documented in a video on the official England YouTube channel, was one scored by Danny Welbeck against Sweden at Euro 2012.

Then-Arsenal winger Theo Walcott clipped in a ball to Welbeck from the byline. The striker was then able to adjust his body, turning his back to the goal, and delicately guide the ball into the back of the net with his heel.

Reviewing the finish twelve years on, a clearly impressed Ramsdale said: “He’s done that all his career. I could probably pull up about 12, 15 goals he’s scored like that.”

Welbeck, who played for Arsenal between 2014 and 2019, was particularly prolific for his country, as he racked up 16 goals in 42 caps.

What is former Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck doing now?

Whilst the 33-year-old is no longer involved on the international scene, he is still plying his trade in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has previously noted how “important” Welbeck is to the Seagulls, describing him as a “great player,” as quoted by Sussex World.

Welbeck is largely well remembered at the Emirates Stadium, too. Whilst he was not the greatest goalscorer, and struggled with injuries, he produced a number of memorable performances and always gave his everything for the team.

Arteta has Arsenal stars in Marbella whilst Bukayo Saka struggles at Euro 2024

In this week’s episode, Will Jones and Rahul Lakhani discussed England’s recent poor performances at the European Championships. With Arsenal players Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka receiving mixed reviews for England so far, Gareth Southgate’s tactical decisions were questioned.

There was some talk about the members of the Arsenal squad currently on a surprise training camp with Mikel Arteta in Marbella, as well as a brief look at how Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli are getting on at the Copa America with Brazil.
