‘Phenomenal’: BBC pundit couldn’t believe one thing Kevin De Bruyne did in latest Euro 2024 match

Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku have managed to secure themselves a place in the knockout stage of the 2024 European Championship.

After losing to Slovakia and then beating Romania, Belgium ended the group stage of the tournament with a 0-0 draw against Ukraine on Wednesday.

While each side in Group E ended the group stage with four points, Belgium finished second due to them scoring fewer goals (2) than Romania (4) who topped the group.

Despite not helping his national side get a win in their final match before the knockout round, the City midfielder still managed to do something that caught the attention of one pundit who couldn’t help but share his amazement.

Stephen Warnock wowed by what Kevin De Bruyne did in latest Belgium match

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (via BBC Sport) in the early stage of Belgium’s match Ukraine, Stephen Warnock had this to say after seeing Kevin De Bruyne play an impressive key pass to Romelu Lukaku.

He said: “I don’t know how Kevin De Bruyne gets the ball into the position he does.

“Romelu Lukaku is right in between the two centre-halves and it is a phenomenal, inch-perfect pass into his feet. Unfortunately, he can’t get good enough contact on the shot at goal.”

De Bruyne is no stranger to making key passes

Having completed the full 90 minutes against Ukraine, De Bruyne made four key passes in total, which is more than any other Belgium player on the day.

As every City supporter will know, the midfielder is a master when it comes to making key passes and setting up goalscoring opportunities for his side.

Specifically, even though he only appeared in 18 Premier League games last season, De Bruyne made 59 key passes in total, the fourth-highest in the City squad.

In addition to that, the six-time Premier League champion ended the campaign with the highest rate of shot-creating actions per 90 minutes (7.36) and goal-creating actions per 90 minutes (1.18) in the division.

Earlier this month, Alan Shearer said that the City star would be his dream teammate due to the number of impressive crosses and key passes he makes on such a regular basis.

Now that Warnock has shared his amazement at this latest pass De Bruyne made for Belgium, it’s clear that he is a vital figure for his country and could give them a great chance of progressing further in the tournament.
