Wisbech is the chosen venue for Fenland’s first-ever Pride event next month.
Fenland Pride is an LGBTQ+ Pride event focused on bringing the local community together.
It will be celebrating Pride all day onSaturday, July 6 at the Queen Mary Centre in Somers Road, with special entertainment, food, and exhibitors from the local area. It is free to attend.
Fenland Pride 2024 will be the first official pride event to be held in the district. But organisers hope it will be a fun and exciting day for everyone to celebrate our similarities and differences!
People from across the LGBTQIA+ community and allies of all ages are encouraged to join in the fun. There will be live entertainment, workshops, activities, food stalls, information about local services, and more.
This event is being brought to Fenland in partnership with The Kite Trust. The trust supports LGBTQ+ young people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
The fun starts at noon with emcee Gloria aka Jack Wilkin. Gloria is Jack’s camp sequin-wielding persona. Jack is an artist, youth worker and facilitator based in Peterborough.
Among the day’s performers is Charley Genever an LGBTQ+ poet and creative producer who also lives and works in Peterborough. She is a former Peterborough Poet Laureate and is vice chair of the Syntax Collective.
Professionally trained opera singer Gabriella Pineda-Rodrigues is a highly in-demand singer of all genres. She is a singer/pianist who performs authentic covers of pop songs, 40s/vintage, Disney songs, show tunes, and everything in between.
Gabriella has performed at The Royal Albert Hall, The Royal Festival Hall & The Bridgewater Hall to name but a few venues; she has also performed for the late Queen. She played Princess Jasmine in Aladdin in Spain alongside famous British actors & was commissioned by the BBC to write an original song “Hiphopera” – a rap/opera collaboration.
There is a full programme of events throughout the afternoon and early evening. The concluding act is Circus Sensible which will take to the main stage at 5.35pm.
Other attractions include a kickboxing demonstration by March-based RKA Kick Boxing, a glitter station with the Cambridge Rollerbillies.
There will be food, and drink on offer there will also be support and advice from a raft of organisations including the Terrence Higgins Trust, Centre 33, Healthwatch, Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, and Young People’s Counselling Service.
