Report: Rangers join race to sign 'explosive' relegated winger as Nils Koppen looks to pip PSV Eindhoven

Rangers have already been active in the summer transfer window but Nils Koppen is now in the market for even more signings to bolster the Ibrox ranks.

Rangers needed reinforcements this summer having missed out on the Premiership title last season.

Philippe Clement was attempting to take Rangers forward with a real mixture of Steven Gerrard, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale signings.

It’s fair to say that Rangers weren’t particularly balanced and Clement needed to be backed with additions this summer.

Nils Koppen has made his stance abundantly clear; he wants top young talents at Ibrox.

Just look at the summer signings so far; Connor Barron is the oldest addition at 21 with Jefte, Oscar Cortes and Clinton Nsiala aged 20.

Rangers chase Couhaib Driouech

More experience could arrive with Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean on the wish list and another import is now being linked with a move to Glasgow.

Koppen’s knowledge of the Dutch market during his time at PSV Eindhoven may see Rangers look towards the Netherlands with Couhaib Driouech wanted.

FC Update in the Netherlands report that Rangers have joined the race to sign winger Driouech from Excelsior in Rotterdam.

It’s suggested that Royal Antwerp, Sporting and RC Lens have all shown an interest in Driouech, as have PSV Eindhoven – Koppen’s former club.

Rangers are understood to have expressed a real interest in Driouech, with PSV having a €2million (£1.7million) rejected earlier in June.

Excelsior suffered relegation from the Eredivisie at the end of this past season and may find that they lose their key man Driouech for less than first hoped.

A Moroccan addition is expected soon with Hamza Igamane expected to arrive from FAR Rabat in the near future.

Igamane could be joined by compatriot Driouech, who has previously picked up three caps for the Morocco Under-23’s.

Who is Rangers target Driouech?

Driouech was born in the Netherlands but is of Moroccan descent, leading to him representing the latter at international level.

A product of the Heerenveen academy, Driouech managed only five first-team appearances there before joining Excelsior in 2021.

The 22-year-old predominantly plays as a left-sided winger but has also played on the right flank at times.

Driouech hit eight goals and eight assists in all competitions last term, taking his game to another level having hit just three goals and three assists in the 2022-23 campaign.

A skilful dribbler who has added real end product to his game, Driouech has been branded ‘so explosive’ by former Excelsior boss Marinus Dijkhuizen.

Driouech is likely to feature for Morocco at the Olympic Games this summer and Rangers may be minded to really push for a deal to be done before he is on show in France.
