‘The best player’: Chris Sutton claims Man City star was better than anyone else in the PL last season

Manchester City strengthened their status as the best side in England by winning a fourth Premier League title in a row last season.

After winning the Treble, Pep Guardiola’s side followed that up by lifting their sixth Premier League trophy in seven years.

For this summer’s European Championship in Germany, City had more players selected to play in the tournament than any other side in the top flight.

Ahead of the upcoming knockout stage of the competition, one pundit has helped praise on one of City’s players, who has started every game in the Euros for his country so far, for their efforts in the Premier League last season.

Chris Sutton names Phil Foden as being the best performer in the Premier League last season

While assessing England’s squad and how they’ve performed in the Euros so far in a recent edition of It’s All Kicking Off, Chris Sutton had this to say on the players in Gareth Southgate’s squad and Phil Foden, in particular.

He said: “I’m not saying that the performances have been anywhere near the level. I’m not saying that.

“But what I do know and what you know as well and what a lot of other journalists know is that England have players within the team, Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden was the best player in the Premier League this season, Declan Rice has had an outstanding season at Arsenal.

“If and when it does click, England have got a right chance in this competition to get to the final.”

Foden proved his star quality in previous Premier League campaign

The 24-year-old featured in 35 league games for the Blues last season, delivering eight assists and scoring 19 goals in the process, leaving only three other players in the division to find the back of the net on more occasions.

After Foden was officially named Premier League Player of the Season, Alan Shearer then said that the Englishman fully deserved the award, as well as describing him as being “unplayable” throughout the campaign.

With all of that in mind, it’s hard to disagree with Sutton about the £225k-a-week City star outperforming everyone else in the Premier League last season
