Report: Johan Lange is pushing Tottenham to sign 'terrific' midfielder this summer, he really wants him

Tottenham Hotspur are yet to get off the mark when it comes to making their first permanent signing of the summer transfer window.

Of course, Tottenham have been able to secure Timo Werner on a season long loan following his short-term deal in the second half of last season.

But when it comes to getting a player in at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a permanent deal, Daniel Levy is yet to get up and running.

Ange Postecoglou‘s first campaign at Spurs was a successful one with Tottenham returning to European football for the upcoming season.

However, adding to his squad is going to be on the agenda for the Australian with players set to return back to Hotspur Way from the beginning of next week.

And it seems as if technical director Johan Lange has one player in mind who he would like to bring in for the 58-year-old.

Johan Lange is big fan of midfielder for Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham have gone into the summer window looking for midfield reinforcement with Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher believed to be one of the options for Spurs.

The England international is currently in the middle of a contract saga with his current club with one year remaining on his deal.

But the 24-year-old is not Tottenham’s only other option with their technical direct, Lange, having identified another alternative for Postecoglou this summer.

According to Alasdair Gold, it is the Spurs technical director who is leading the pursuit of the Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey.

It has been suggested Spurs have seen a bid of £20m plus Giovani Lo Celso knocked back by the side which finished two points above them last season.

However, the reliable Spurs correspondent has claimed the chances of Villa allowing their promising homegrown talent to leave this summer are slim.

But Lange views Ramsey through Spurs’ new data-led recruitment system as a great fit for Postecoglou as either a number eight or left winger.

What Steven Gerrard previously said about Jacob Ramsey

The 2023/24 campaign was a difficult one for the 23-year-old at Villa Park having struggled massively through injury issues.

Various injuries restricted Ramsey to just over 800 minutes in the Premier League where he was able to return one goal and one assist.

He is certainly a versatile player having played across four different positions last season under Unai Emery.

Former Villa manager Steven Gerrard has previously hailed the young midfielder during his time in the dugout.

“He’s not following in anyone’s footsteps. Jacob Ramsey is Jacob Ramsey. He will be a terrific player,” Gerrard told TNT Sports back in 2022.

“It won’t be long before the whole country is watching him I’m sure. He is right up there, let me tell you.”
