Jermaine Jenas says player who left Man City in 2020 was actually better than Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne has undeniably been a vital figure for Manchester City during his time at the club.

Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium back in 2015, the Belgian has racked up 272 goal contributions in 382 games across all competitions.

He’s also won a significant number of trophies during his time with the Blues including six Premier League titles.

Despite all of that, one former top-flight midfielder has suggested that someone who left the Manchester club some years ago was actually better than De Bruyne.

Jermaine Jenas picks David Silva over Kevin De Bruyne

When asked to pick between certain past and present midfielders in a recent video uploaded to the Daily Mail Sport TikTok channel, Jermaine Jenas was asked to choose who he thinks is better between David Silva and De Bruyne.

For his answer, the pundit went for Silva over the Belgian.

Silva and De Bruyne are both City icons

During his 10-year spell with the Citizens between 2010 and 2020, the Spaniard made 436 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Across those games, Silva scored 77 goals, supplied 130 assists and helped City win numerous domestic trophies including four Premier League titles.

Between De Bruyne’s arrival and Silva’s departure, the duo played in 143 games together, totalling eight joint goal participations along the way.

After he left the club, the 2010 World Cup winner, who Phil Foden said back in February was his footballing idol, was commemorated with a statue outside the Etihad to recognise what he gave the club during his time with City.

While the current City midfielder has delivered more goal contributions for the team in fewer appearances than Silva, it would be hard to find a supporter of the Manchester club that wouldn’t consider both players as being two of the best City have ever had.
