Austrian football expert names quartet from Ralf Rangnick's Euro 2024 side Oliver Glasner must bring to Palace

One of Euro 2024’s biggest surprises has been Austria, who topped the group of death but would any suit a Crystal Palace move?

So far in the Euro 2024 tournament, quite a lot of the perceived big sides have struggled to get going, with England being the main example of this.

But one team who’ve actually been on fire are Austria, topping the group which also included the Netherlands and France.

Ralf Rangnick’s side has impressed everyone, and that got us thinking. With Oliver Glasner being Austrian, will he want to bring any of these players to Selhurst Park?

So We Are Palace have spoken to Austrian football expert and journalist from LAOLA1, Rene Mersol, in order to ask which players might be well suited to Crystal Palace.

Four Austrian players tipped to be excellent signings for Crystal Palace

Speaking with the Austrian football journalist Mersol, we asked if any of Rangnick’s side would be good fits for Glasner to potentially bring to the Premier League.

One name mentioned was actually a player linked with the Eagles earlier this year, Matthias Seidl and he even commented on the links admitting he’d like to make the move.

On Seidl, Mersol commented that he’d fit in well for Glasner behind the striker but admitted, “the step to England would probably be too big for him.”

Nicolas Seiwald was the second name to be mentioned with Mersol saying: “He has everything you need for Glasner’s football. He can win balls, tie them up and initiate attacks, enabling an extremely fast transition game.”

At just 23 years old, Seiwald is a strong midfield option should Glasner want to make a signing there to bolster his ranks.

Next, to be mentioned was Gernot Trauner who Mersol had a particularly strong opinion about: “He has an extremely good overview and strong build-up play. In my opinion, he’s even a better centre-back overall than Kevin Danso, but that’s my personal opinion.”

Finally, Alexander Prass is the final name tipped by Mersol as he explained the left-sided player fit well under Glasner with his “dynamism” being a particular quality.

Some interesting names are mentioned here but which do we think Palace need to make a move for?

Nicolas Seiwald is the best of the bunch

Of all the Austrians performing well at the Euros, arguably the most exciting of them all, outside of the big names has been Seiwald.

The talented midfielder has previously been linked with the likes of Manchester United which showcases his ability and potential.

Seiwald is first and foremost a defensive midfielder who thrives at making tackles with 3.82 per 90 (99th percentile) according to FBRef.

He also makes 1.18 interceptions (69th percentile), 1.55 blocks (80th percentile) and 1.73 clearances (74th percentile) per 90, all of which are impressive.

Interestingly, Seiwald’s number one similar player on FBRef is Palace’s own Will Hughes. Could this mean the RB Leipzig talent is a long-term replacement? We’ll have to wait and see.
