Wrexham will be busy in the transfer window as they look to bolster the squad ahead of their first League One campaign in 19 years.
Phil Parkinson’s side returned for pre-season testing this week as the team begin preparations for their toughest season yet.
Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have always provided funds and support to Parkinson during the transfer windows and they’ll be looking to make additions to the squad ahead of the coming campaign.
Wrexham have already started strong in the window with goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo signing a three-year deal at the Racecourse earlier this week.
The former Sunderland coach will still want to strengthen in other areas of the pitch, with defence being a particular position of priority.
However, as seen in previous windows, the Red Dragons will make a move for other targets if they see it as a good opportunity to improve the squad.
Wrexham should re-ignite Macaulay Langstaff interest
Earlier in the year, we exclusively brought the news of Wrexham’s interest in signing Notts County striker Macaulay Langstaff this summer.
The Red Dragons’ interest in the talismanic forward is clear and could be a strong upgrade as a striking option.
The 27-year-old marksman finished as the League Two top goalscorer with 28 goals, four more goals than Mullin’s 24 goals.
According to recent reports elsewhere, Millwall have submitted a bid for the Englishman.
Langstaff has been watched by many Championship clubs including fellow Welsh club Swansea, where his former manager Luke Williams is now in the dugout.
It would be tough for the Red Dragons to battle Championship clubs for his signature, but it would not be the first time Wrexham outmuscled clubs from a higher division for their targets an as a result, they must re-ignite their interest.
The former Gateshead striker would provide a serious goal threat and be part of a mouthwatering strike partnership with Mullin.
Their combined total of 52 goals last year, would put fear into opponents’ defences, with the prospect of having to keep both natural goal scorers quiet a challenging one.
Club-record signing Ollie Palmer has been a strong partner to Mullin, but the opportunity to bring Langstaff to the Racecourse could be too good to miss for the Hollywood owners.
And they know too well about his talents, often being left stunned by his ability with Wrexham and County going head-to-head on numerous occasions over the past few seasons.
Who would have to make way?
The North Wales club does already have an inflated striker department at the club with the likes of Mullin, Palmer, Steven Fletcher, Sam Dalby, and Jack Marriot all under contract at the Racecourse.
With Langstaff likely to cost a high price, other strikers would have to surely be moved on.
Former Premier League veteran Steven Fletcher has just recently signed a contract extension. Palmer has been a consistent part of Parkinson’s plans, and ex-Derby County striker Jack Marriott only moved to the North Wales club in January.
That would make Dalby one of the most likely candidates to be moved on if the Notts County striker arrived at the Racecourse.
Dalby has had a steady career at Wrexham and has been an important squad player.
However, with the quality level rising in League One, Parkinson may feel he needs to add stronger striking options with Langstaff potentially being one of the best opportunities on the market this summer.
You can only imagine how devastating a frontline the manager would have at his disposal should McElhenney and Reynolds look to sanction a move for Langstaff, who alongside Mullin and Palmer would undoubtedly be one of the most lethal attacks in League One.
