The trades are flying ahead of the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, and the Atlanta Hawks have made a move to deal forward AJ Griffin to the Houston Rockets.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Griffin will be traded for the No. 44 pick in Thursday night’s NBA Draft. Griffin is a former first-round pick out of Duke in the 2022 draft.

After making considerable contributions for the Hawks in the 2022-23 season, Griffin had far less of an impact this year due to injury.

He played in just 20 games for the Hawks in 2023-24, also spending some time with the College Park Skyhawks as he tried to regain his form. He was hurt again in mid-March.

Atlanta provided the following injury update on him at the time:

“Guard AJ Griffin has missed the last four College Park Skyhawks games due to soreness in his right lower leg and ankle following a contusion on March 5. He will be recalled to the Hawks later today and is scheduled to be evaluated by the Hawks’ medical staff next week. An update will be provided following the appointment.”

Griffin averaged 8.9 points and 2.1 rebounds in his rookie season for the Hawks, playing in 72 games with 12 starts.

During his lone season at Duke, AJ Griffin averaged 10.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He was taken with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks.
