5-star TE Linkon Cure announces his commitment date: ‘The decision was a lot tougher than I expected it to be’

Linkon Cure is Kansas State target

Goodland (Kan.) five-star tight end Linkon Cureis one of the top uncommitted players in the country. That will change very soon.

Cure is announcing his college destination on July 1 and choosing between Kansas, Kansas State, Oregonand Texas A&M. Over the past four weeks, the 6-foot-4.5, 210-pound recruit has taken official visits to the Jayhawks (May 31-June 2), Aggies (June 7-9), Ducks (June 14-16) and Wildcats (June 21-23).

“The year was an absolute roller coaster,” Cure told On3. “It did not play out the way I thought it would. I had a lot of mixed emotions throughout the whole process because of some coaching changes and things like that. It was a crazy process, but I enjoyed every little bit of it. I stayed true to my process and took in the whole thing. I took those four OVs and the decision was a lot tougher than I expected it to be, but I’m pretty settled in on what I see in those schools, what I want and what I can be.”

Cure knows he is going to make ‘the right decision’

Official visits played a huge role in Cure’s decision because it gave him the chance to take part in “really important” meetings and be around players and recruits. These trips also enabled him to experience the environment at each of his finalists and learn about what he could achieve at each program.

The No. 2 player in Kansas was “all over the place” at one point while trying to figure out where he wanted to spend his college football career. But he now feels confident about his upcoming decision.

“My feeling at a school, academics, development and culture are important to me,” said Cure, the No. 28 overall prospect and No. 2 tight end in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. “They all really summarize everything that matters to me in a school. With the feeling, you can’t really explain what it is and how you feel, but it’s one of those situations that when you know, you know.

“You have to trust that with your heart and trust in God that it is the right decision. If you’re getting a really good feeling at one university and not at another, that will bring up some questionable things in your decision. So, you have to go with that feeling.”

Cure breaks down his finalists

Kansas: “The culture there is amazing and it is a program on the rise. What coach Lance Leipold has done there and what he’s doing there has completely changed that program and I’m really excited for their future. Also, I absolutely love the coaching staff and the area… Being there, I love everything about it. It has a lot of good food and I love the feeling I get there.”

Kansas State: “I love everything about them. The biggest thing there is the culture and being around the program. That’s definitely something I noticed, guys that I will be around all the time if I choose Kansas State. I thought that was really important. The leadership there and the coaching staff are great. I really love everything about Kansas State. I love what coach Chris Kliemanhas done there. There’s a lot of guys around there that I respect and it’s a great place to be.”

Oregon: “I absolutely love the area. The rest of my finalists are relatively close by and then, there’s Oregon all the way out there on the West Coast. I like the idea of being able to get away from everything at Oregon and really put my eyes on football. I absolutely love the coaching staff and everything about them. I love coach Dan Lanning, coach Drew Mehringerand coach Will Stein. I love how they see me, how they want to use me and how they plan to develop me. I also love the area and the fans.”

Texas A&M: “I love everything about Texas A&M. I have an amazing relationship with coach Collin Klein. That is one of the awesome relationships that I have. I also have amazing relationships with Christian Ellsworth, coach Mike Elkoand coach Patrick Dougherty. I like the leadership there and the culture that they’re building. They’re one of those programs on the rise, so I’m really excited for their future.”
