Uruguayan national media deliver verdict on Darwin Nunez vs Bolivia after Liverpool striker scores at Copa America again

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez was at it again for Uruguay as they thumped Bolivia 5-0 on Friday morning.

Nunez had been in staggeringly good form for his country heading into the Copa America and he has continued his goal-scoring heroics into the tournament.

The Liverpool man began the competition by scoring during Uruguay’s 3-1 win over Panama on Monday. Despite his goal, the Uruguayan media gave Nunez a mixed review, though.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were much more convincing against Bolivia on Friday, showcasing exactly why Arne Slot is prepared to make Nunez a key man at Anfield next season.

The 25-year-old now has nine goals in his past seven games for Uruguay and has scored in each of his those appearances. It’s starting to click.

Uruguayan media offer Darwin Nunez verdict

It would not have been a surprise to see Nunez struggling for confidence at Copa America this summer.

The former Benfica striker had a poor end to the season for Liverpool, missing chances and failing to score in his last 10 games of the campaign.

But when he pulls on the shirt of his nation, Nunez seems to completely transform.

Aided by the words and advice of former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, Nunez shows little of the profligacy which has blighted him at Anfield.

Nevertheless, according to Uruguayan outlet El Observador, there is still a little wastefulness in Nunez’s game, even for the Celeste.

They do have him down as an eight out of 10 performer, which is obviously a good score, and they hail the ‘tremendous’ nature of Nunez’s overall display.

However, it is still noted that the No.9 did miss further chances to add to his tally.

Regardless of the missed opportunities though, it’s claimed that Nunez ‘always wanted it and always made it complicated [for Bolivia].’ That will all sound very familiar to Liverpool supporters.

What next for Liverpool players at Copa America?

With a couple of days rest from Euro 2024, Liverpool fans will be looking towards the USA for their football fix.

Copa America is hurtling along nicely with all four of the Liverpool squad involved playing key roles for their country’s.

Luis Diaz is the next to be in action. Diaz was superb for Colombia in an opening fixture win over Paraguay, and Los Cafeteros will hope to build on that as they take on Costa Rica at 11pm on Friday.

Then, Alisson Becker and Brazil will demanding better in their second fixture. After drawing 0-0 with Costa Rica, they’ll need to beat Paraguay early on Saturday morning before a face-off with Diaz and Colombia.

So far though, the star of the show in Liverpool terms has certainly been Nunez. Hopefully he can carry this confident goal-scoring form into the new season with the Reds.
