Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka predicts what Trent Alexander-Arnold will do when he retires from playing football

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been the main talking point of England’s Euro 2024 campaign so far.

Alexander-Arnold seems to attract debate and conversation whatever he does on the football pitch, and this summer’s tournament has been no different.

Having been initially deployed in midfield by manager Gareth Southgate, the Liverpool academy graduate has since been bombed out of the team.

Alexander-Arnold had been criticised for ‘looking lost’ during his midfield outings and when he came on during Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Slovenia, Trent was at right-back.

Given some of the stick the Liverpool man takes at times, you could forgive him for thinking about his future in the game.

Bukayo Saka makes Trent Alexander-Arnold prediction

There’s little question that Alexander-Arnold has been made a scapegoat for Southgate’s poor decision making for England.

As Gary Lineker correctly put it, Trent has been ‘hung out to dry‘ by the Three Lions manager.

In truth, the Scouser tends to get a rough end of the deal at club level, too. Not by Liverpool and never by Jurgen Klopp, it must be said, but by the media, who simply don’t appear to want to see him succeed.

As a result of the constant nit-picking over his game, you could totally understand why Alexander-Arnold would want to get out of football as soon as he retires.

Trent spoke about being interested in tennis this week and perhaps we could see a cross-over when the 25-year-old eventually hangs up his boots.

According to England teammate Bukayo Saka though, there’s a very good chance that Alexander-Arnold does indeed stay in football.

Asked by England’s official YouTube channel to name a national team colleague who he could see being a manager in the future, Saka surprisingly named Liverpool’s No.66.

“Do you know who’s on my mind? Trent,” replied the Arsenal forward. “I think he could be a gaffer you know. He loves the game. I could see it, potentially.”

New dream unlocked for Liverpool supporters

Not 26 until October, Alexander-Arnold does not need to think about retirement for some time yet.

The right-back still has many years left at the top of the game. Hopefully most – if not all – of those years can be spent at Liverpool.

With his contract situation still up in their though, and interest coming from Real Madrid, that is not quite guaranteed.

Nevertheless, after hearing Saka’s words, every Liverpool fan will now be dreaming of the day Alexander-Arnold is in the dugout at Anfield.

It never quite happened in the end for Steven Gerrard, but if the Reds do get a Scouser in charge of the club one day, Alexander-Arnold may be a decent bet to be that man.
