Report: Derby County in race to sign Premier League midfielder, club has set six-figure asking price

Derby County have reportedly set their sights on a 23-year-old Tunisian international midfielder.

Paul Warne managed to achieve promotion with Derby County in the 2023/24 season, ending a two-year stint in League One.

Warne has already begun to scour the market for players to come through the door ahead of the Championship season, including Ben Osborn, who underwent a medical on Thursday at Pride Park.

Derby County have also reportedly agreed to sign Swansea City striker Jerry Yates on loan after he managed nine goals last season for the Swans in the Championship.

However, their business is far from over as they look to bolster their midfield options which took a hit following the departure of Korey Smith and Conor Hourihane earlier this month.

They are likely to turn their attention to a Tunisian international with EFL experience for the new season.

Derby County target Ipswich Town midfielder Idris El Mizouni

Derby County have reportedly shown interest in Idris El Mizouni following a successful loan spell at Leyton Orient in League One, per TWTD.

The Rams are rivalling Oxford United for the midfielder, who has reportedly been given a price tag of around £350,000.

Derby County are reportedly likely to renew their interest after they considered El Mizouni prior to the 2023/24 season.

The Paris-born player played a significant role in Leyton Orient’s midfield, being handed the captain’s armband on 11 occasions. He also has previous experience for Cambridge United and Grimsby Town on loan.

Would Derby County target Idris El Mizouni make an impact in the Championship

El Mizouni’s record at Ipswich Town only stands at 26 appearances, spanning across five years where he struggled to cement a first team spot.

However, his development has been mainly at Brisbane Road, where he has played 89 matches for Leyton Orient across two seasons on loan.

The fact that the Tunisian international was handed the captaincy on multiple occasions at just the age of 23 shows the leadership he has, of which could be crucial for Derby County with the experienced Smith and Hourihane departing.

Midfield options are far and few for the Rams at this moment, with Tyrese Fornah being one of the few recognised central-midfielders.

Players in this position need to be prioritised ahead of the new season and El Mizouni could be perfect for Derby’s new look midfield ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

El Mizouni has been given several loan moves whilst at Portman Road and will want to kick on with his career by striking a permanent move. It’s a deal that works perfectly for both parties.
