N.J. man indicted on attempted murder charge after attacking cop with a knife

A 31-year-old man accused of attacking a police officer with a knife in April has been indicted on a charge of attempted murder, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday.

Keith Kiminsky, of Galloway Township, was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury for attempted murder, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, obstruction and weapons offenses, authorities said.

The incident occurred when Galloway police responded to the 300 block of Cresson Avenue after receiving multiple calls to 911 on April 7, according to a news release.

When police arrived, Kiminsky came out of the house and allegedly attacked an officer with a serrated kitchen knife and cut his face, officials said. An altercation lasted around several minutes between Kiminsky and police — resulting in other officers being injured.

The officer who was cut was taken to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery, officials reported.

“He sustained a serious injury to his right cheek, which was so severely cut, his mouth and teeth were exposed,” the prosecutor’s office said. “The gash on the officer’s face was close to the carotid artery in his neck.”

Kiminsky is currently being detained at the Atlantic County Jail pending resolution of these charges.
