Passers-by help injured woman lying on road in Cambourne after fall

A woman who suffered a fall in the road in Cambourne was helped by passers-by while an ambulance was awaited.

The ambulance service was called to Back Lane, by the entrance to the car park for Morrisons and Home Bargains, on Thursday evening (27 June).

An ambulance arrived after one hour and 25 minutes.

Unconfirmed reports on social media suggested she may have banged her head and hurt her back when getting out of a vehicle.

As she could not be moved, passers-by helped direct vehicles around her before police arrived to manage the traffic.

An off-duty nurse, passers-by and staff from the Home Bargains store cared for the woman, providing blankets and towels. The ambulance arrived 85 minutes after the initial call.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called just before 7pm on Thursday 27 June with reports that a woman had suffered a fall on Back Lane in Great Cambourne.

“The woman was assisted by an off-duty nurse before an ambulance was able to be dispatched to the scene. The woman was transported to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

Earlier in the week, one person sustained minor injuries following a collision in Cambourne Road, Cambourne, between two vehicles. It happened at 8.55am on Wednesday.
