'It's where the club belongs': Ex-Middlesbrough star names three reasons club will win promotion in 2024/25

A former Middlesbrough player has listed three reasons why the club will win promotion from the Championship in 2024/25.

Middlesbrough are in the midst of preparing for the 2024/25 Championship campaign under Michael Carrick.

The majority of Middlesbrough players returned to Rockliffe Park on June 24th as they gear up for their pre-season campaign, which gets underway on July 20th versus Bolton Wanderers.

Middlesbrough’s fixture list for the 2024/25 league season was also released this week, with the Teessiders handed a favourable start to the year.

Boro take on Swansea City at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, August 10th, before back-to-back games versus two of the three newly promoted teams.

The North East outfit will be desperate to get their season off to a positive start as they look to secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.

Middlesbrough finished four points off the top six last time out and made it to the play-off semi-finals in 2022/23, but Boro fans are no doubt optimistic it will be third time lucky under Carrick.

Mikkel Beck explains why Middlesbrough should secure promotion

One man who is certainly confident Middlesbrough can finally win promotion back to the Premier League is Mikkel Beck.

Beck spent three years on Teesside between 1996-1999 and was a member of Boro’s promotion-winning team in 1998.

The 51-year-old is now retired and is currently working as a pundit for TVSporten at Euro 2024.

While working in Germany, Beck explained why he believes Boro will win promotion in the forthcoming campaign, highlighting their squad, manager, and supporters as reasons why they should go up, as per Teesside Live.

He said: “I back Middlesbrough to have a chance of promotion. In the last year they have been up there every season, and this year they just missed out on the playoffs but they will be there again.

“They have a good side and a good manager, plus fantastic supporters who will help their team to hopefully win promotion. I hope for my former club they will get promoted. It’s where the club belongs.”

Can Boro win promotion in 2024/25

The 2024/25 season might still be over a month away, but there are positive signs Middlesbrough can mount a proper promotion push this term.

Boro’s promotion charge was derailed in the previous season due to a number of key stars leaving and needing replacing.

Chuba Akpom, Ryan Giles, Cameron Archer, and Aaron Ramsey all left the club in the summer of 2023.

This forced Middlesbrough to bring in a plethora of new names, with it obvious from their form in the first half of 2023/24 that the fresh additions needed some time to embed themselves into the team.

Middlesbrough do not look set to have that issue this time around, though, with all of their key players from last term still currently at the club.

If the Reds can keep hold of the likes of Emmanuel Latte Lath, Hayden Hackney and Rav van den Berg, they should, in theory, be able to start next season in the same form they ended the last – losing just one in 12.
