Exclusive - Liverpool make contact over ex-Everton forward who is 'nightmare to play against'

HITC understands that Liverpool have enquired with Newcastle about Anthony Gordon’s situation.

Gordon was a revelation at St James’ Park last season becoming one of Newcastle’s key players as he scored 10 Premier League goals and also helped himself to 10 assists.

His form was recognised by Gareth Southgate who handed his debut against Brazil and then called him into this squad for the Euro 2024.

Newcastle have been bracing themselves for interest to emerge, as it has done for their other star players Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, and now HITC can confirm and opening approach has arrived.

Liverpool ask Newcastle about Anthony Gordon’s situation

HITC understands that Liverpool have asked their North East counterparts about Gordon, a player they are very keen on.

Liverpool’s scouting and analytical departments are believed to have highlighted Gordon as someone whose potential could take him to the very top of the game.

HITC understands that new Reds boss Arne Slot is keen to add to the club’s attacking pool which is already full of outstanding options but with the futures of Mo Salah and Luis Diaz somewhat up-in-the-air, it is not a surprise to see them look at someone of the calibre of Gordon.

HITC is also told that French giants Paris Saint-Germain through their footballing chief Luis Campos, who has pushed the claims of Gordon, also hold a strong interest as he feels the 23-year-old forward is a huge talent.

Gordon has just two-years left on his contract at Newcastle having joined in January 2023 in a deal worth £45million.

Steven Gerrard fan Gordon says he is a nightmare opponent

Liverpool-born Gordon, who recently admitted he grew up idolising Steven Gerrard, is currently concentrating his own efforts on England and he is under consideration to start for the Three Lions against Slovakia this weekend.

Speaking ahead of the game, he put forward his own case and highlighted just why a club like Liverpool want him.

“My main strengths are, I am very direct, quick – I am nightmare for anyone I play against,” explained Gordon.

“I am positive, every time I get the ball I try to make something happen – every time I get the ball I try to make something happen.

“When I am needed, I am more than ready.”
