In 2023, Kyren Williams put together a breakout season with the Los Angeles Rams. The former Notre Dame star became a key part of the running and passing attacks under Sean McVay, but the franchise brought in some help in the backfield by drafting Blake Corum out of Michigan.

With a new running mate on the way, Williams said he’s excited to build off his impressive 2023 campaign. But by bringing in Corum, that could open up the field for him that much more.

Williams shined after taking over as the starting running back last year, finishing with 1,144 yards and 206 receiving yards while totaling 15 touchdowns over 12 games. He made his presence known across the league after a relatively quiet rookie season, and he’s preparing to take the next step both on and off the field this year.

“Honestly, it’s just growing off of what I did last year,” Williams said on The Rich Eisen Show. “Being a leader out there on the field, being somebody that people could come to or people can just watch and observe and see what they need to do to be successful. It really doesn’t take much.

“You’ve got to be dedicated and you’ve got to work every single day to where you want to be and knowing that end goal may not happen tomorrow. It might not happen the next day, but eventually, if you continue to keep working each and every single day, that’s going to get to where you need to be. For me, it’s just living by that. Just picking off up where I did last year – being able to create more explosives in the run game, also being able to create more explosives in the pass game.”

How Blake Corum addition could impact Kyren Williams

After Williams anchored the running game – he had 800 more yards than the Rams’ second-leading rusher– the franchise brought in one of the top running backs in the draft in Corum. A national champion at Michigan, he’ll now try to complement Williams in Los Angeles and perhaps add another dimension to the offense.

Corum was dynamic at Michigan, rushing for 3,737 yards over his years in Ann Arbor. In fact, Williams predicted it could create more opportunities in the passing game this season with Corum entering the fray.

“I’m super excited that we went to go draft Blake Corum, somebody that can run the ball very well,” Williams said. “Hopefully, that allows me to get to the slot or run routes out of the backfield to showcase my skills that I have for this game.”
