Mathias Kvistgaarden makes transfer admission after previously being linked to Celtic

Mathias Kvistgaarden is a name familiar with Celtic supporters following links with the Brondby frontman over the last year.

He hasn’t mentioned this window as of yet; let me make that crystal. However, there is a long-standing interest there, stemming back to last year.

According to reports in August 2023, Celtic had a bid totalling around £4 million turned down for his services.

Coming into January, Brendan Rodgers’ admiration towards the Denmark Under-21 international never ceased. Contact was made between both parties, but a deal couldn’t be thrashed out for the 22-year-old striker.

Enjoying a productive 2023/24 campaign, Kvistgaarden registered ten goals and seven assists in 28 appearances for Brondby [Transfermarkt]. Now, he had made a admission that could intrigue Celtic supporters.

Mathias Kvistgaarden opens up on career ambition

Speaking to Danish outlet Campo, Kvistgaarden admitted when asked about the prospect of trying his luck in another European league: “There is no doubt about that. I think I have shown myself in a lot of ways, which means that I have shown that I can hopefully also play internationally at some point.”

Later, he was more withdrawn when asked about the timeline of any potential exit: ” I am a soccer player. I meet here around 8:30. So I’m hired to play soccer. And then there are a lot of others who are employed to do what they are employed to do.”

Kvistgaarden is an intriguing striker who would be a statement arrival at Celtic if they were to re-ignite interest in his signature; however, it is unclear if that is a scenario that could unfold this summer.

Hyeongyu Oh could be headed for Genk if both parties can seal a deal, potentially leaving Kyogo Furuhashi as the only recognised striker on the books at Parkhead.

With a need for reinforcements in the final third, there will be intrigue surrounding the type of profile Celtic could look to target.
