Hernando County Sheriff's Deputy Makes Arrest After Traffic Stop

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. \- On June 26, 2024, a Hernando County Sheriff's deputy patrolling the area of Cortez Boulevard and McKethan Road in Brooksville attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation.

The driver, later identified as Willie Reed III, 19, initially fled the stop. However, a helpful citizen in the area informed the deputy of the vehicle's direction.

The deputy located the vehicle on Puckett Street and found Reed standing outside with the driver's side door open.

During the interaction, the deputy noticed a plastic bag containing marijuana in Reed's possession.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded firearm under the passenger seat. A check of the firearm's serial number revealed it was stolen from Lake County. Additionally, a small glass vial containing THC concentrate was found in the car.

Willie Reed III was arrested for the following charges:

  • Grand Theft (of the firearm)
  • Possession of Cannabis Concentrate (THC)
  • Possession of Marijuana

He was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center with a bond set at $6,000.
