Michael Jackson’s final words heard by his doctor

Michael Jackson’s doctor and personal physician, Conrad Murray, relayed the final words of MJ when he was standing trial for manslaughter. His account of the night MJ died was given in an interview played in court.

“Just make me sleep,” MJ allegedly said. “Doesn’t matter what time I get up.”

The interview played in court was conducted by two LAPD detectives, and Murray told them how the final night of the musical figure’s life played out.

He explained he attempted to administer drugs other than propofol—an intravenous anesthetic used for procedural sedation among other things—to get him to sleep.

“‘I got to sleep, Dr. Conrad,'” Murray remembers MJ saying, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. “‘I have these rehearsals to perform. I must be ready for the show in England..'”

After nine hours, the doctor said his patient began to beg for propofol, Murray suspecting he’d become somewhat addicted to it. “He said, ‘Please, please, give him some milk so that I can sleep, because I know that this is all that really works for me.'”

When the detectives asked if the milk was hot, warm, etc., Murray explained “This is just a medicine that he was familiar with, it’s called propofol.”

After no luck getting to sleep, MJ uttered what would be his final words—”Just make me sleep, doesn’t matter what time I get up”—and Murray remembered, “I agreed at that time that I would switch over to the propofol.”

He administered half the usual dose, later telling the detectives he “took all precautions that were available.”

Conrad Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in MJ trial

The interview tape with detectives continued, addressing that Murray left the singer’s bedside for a couple of minutes before returning to discover he wasn’t breathing.

Shocked, he claimed he performed CPR and didn’t call 911 straight away because he would’ve been neglecting his patient by doing so.

Ultimately, MJ died of cardiac arrest caused by “acute propofol intoxication”, as reported by the New York Post. Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to four years in prison before his release in October 2023 after serving roughly two.
