Report: West Ham have submitted offer for 'phenomenal' Euro 2024 striker, Hammers now in pole position

West Ham United have been one of the busier Premier League clubs with regards to transfer activity this summer.

The Hammers have already made two signings in Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham, and it looks as though they’re only just getting started.

West Ham are likely to bolster their ranks in numerous areas this summer. There have been links with defenders, midfielders and forwards.

A new striker is high on the Hammers agenda, with Michail Antonio facing an uncertain future at the London Stadium.

Now, a report has emerged claiming West Ham have made a substantial offer for a “phenomenal” striker currently at Euro 2024.

And the bid is said to have been higher than what the player’s club was hoping for, in terms of initial offers.

West Ham submit offer for Georges Mikautadze

The player in question is Metz and Georgia star Georges Mikautadze, who is currently impressing for his country at Euro 2024.

According to Le10 Sport, West Ham have submitted a bid much higher than the €20million baseline set by Metz.

The Hammers are now in pole position with regards to a potential breakthrough with the Ligue 1 club, as their offer is currently the highest, added the report.

Who is West Ham target Georges Mikautazde?

Mikautadze is a 23-year-old striker who plies his trade for Metz and represents Georgia at international level.

He was born in Lyon and spent his formative years in French academies, including that of his home city.

In 2016, Mikautadze joined the Metz setup, where he came through the ranks and eventually made his first-team breakthrough.

He cut his teeth on loan at Belgian side Seraing, where he got 36 goals from 57 outings between 2020 and 2022.

After returning to Metz from Belgium and becoming a prolific first-team regular, Mikautadze sealed a move to Ajax in 2023.

However, things didn’t quite go to plan for him in Amsterdam, and he duly re-signed for Metz in January. He has since rediscovered his impressive goalscoring form.

His record at Metz reads 64 appearances, 38 goals and 13 assists. He also has 13 goals from 28 caps, of which three have come at Euro 2024, making him top scorer at present.

If West Ham signed Mikautadze, they’d be getting a ‘phenomenal’ player who has a ‘genuine poacher’s instinct’ and has been in ‘stellar goalscoring form’, according to Sutirth Mukherjee of Breaking the Lines.
