Fabrizio Romano shares update on how Manuel Ugarte feels about £50m Man Utd move

Manuel Ugarte has emerged as a top target this summer for Manchester United this summer to the point he looks a likely addition for Ineos.

Defensive midfield is one of the top priorities this summer at Old Trafford and it’s encouraging to see the club acting as such.

It’s such a problem position for Manchester United because of how weak it was last season, which often led to the massive gaps between midfield and defence.

The worst part is, that things are getting worse in the position as Sofyan Amrabat is heading back to Fiorentina and Casemiro looks likely to be on the exit list as well.

Due to this, Manuel Ugarte has become one of the top priorities for United this summer and now, it’s been revealed how he feels about making the move.

Manuel Ugarte wants to make Manchester United move

Ugarte is quickly becoming the most likely transfer for Ineos this summer, along with Joshua Zirkzee who seems likelier to join by the day.

But now, Fabrizio Romano has tweeted and revealed United and PSG were in touch once more on Friday over the Ugarte deal.

He adds that Ugarte has a lot of interested clubs, with PSG open to selling and so he is expected to depart. Romano explains that Ugarte is keen on making a move to United this summer, even though the club can’t offer Champions League football.

Adding to this was Ben Jacobs who reported nothing is close in the move for Ugarte and that PSG will only consider selling if the valuation is met – a £50m price tag has been reported. United are in talks and know of Ugarte’s interest however PSG aren’t in a rush.

It is also worth noting Ugarte is at Copa America right now so a deal likely won’t be done until after the tournament ends in mid-July anyway.

How does Ugarte fit into the midfield group at Manchester United?

Right now the Manchester United midfield group is thin, particularly in terms of players who can play further back in the team.

If signed, the ‘powerhouse‘ Ugarte would be placed in a group of his own as the club’s sole defensive midfielder, assuming Casemiro departs or even if he doesn’t he’s shown he simply can’t play there anymore.

Alongside Ugarte, United will place Kobbie Mainoo who’ll be delighted to finally have a midfield partner who’ll do the dirty work.

The final spot will be handed to Bruno Fernandes who is irreplaceable in the squad right now. For both Mainoo and Fernandes, Mason Mount will be expected to play a more substantial role while Scott McTominay will hope to be a threat once again.
