'He's got all of the tools': TalkSPORT pundit offers verdict on latest Middlesbrough summer signing

A talkSPORT journalist has offered his verdict on one of Middlesbrough’s 2024 summer signings, dubbing him ‘very good’.

Middlesbrough have already completed three signings during the 2024 summer transfer window so far.

Boro will be aiming to secure promotion to the Premier League in 2024/25 after flirting with play-off success in the previous two campaigns.

Michael Carrick is the man tasked with leading the charge for the Teessiers, with the former Manchester United star being backed heavily by Steve Gibson this summer.

The North East outfit wasted no time in getting their summer business underway, making Luke Ayling’s loan move a permanent one earlier this month.

Ayling’s return to the Riverside was followed by the addition of versatile forward Delano Burgzorg, who scored seven in 33 Championship games for Huddersfield Town last term.

On June 28th, meanwhile, Middlesbrough confirmed they had completed a move for Columbus Crew midfielder, Aidan Morris.

TalkSPORT pundit gives verdict on Aidan Morris

A deal for Morris has been in the works for some time, with the player himself recently explaining how Carrick convinced him to join the club.

Morris joins Middlesbrough having scored seven goals and provided 11 assists in 105 appearances for Columbus, playing a key role in their two MLS Cup victories in recent years.

Now, Phil Spencer of talkSPORT has offered his verdict on Middlesbrough’s latest summer addition.

Taking to X/Twitter, Spencer expressed his excitement at the move and backed him to be a very good player for Middlesbrough.

He wrote: “I’m really excited by the Aidan Morris signing.

“Heard lots about him since the move was reported and while it might take a bit of time to get up to speed in England/the EFL, he’s got all of the tools to be a very good player for Middlesbrough.”

Do Middlesbrough need another midfielder after Morris

Morris, on paper at least, looks to be a smart signing for the Reds and should improve their midfield in 2024/25.

However, the club may still need to bring another player through the door this summer to strengthen in the midfield of the park.

Hayden Hackney’s future is in doubt following Premier League interest last month, while Jonny Howson is in the twilight of his career at 36 years old.

Dan Barlaser has also been the subject of transfer interest from Turkey, while Riley McGree has just 12 months left on his current contract.

The sale of any of these players, or Howson simply not being able to play on a regular basis due to his age, would weaken Middlesbrough’s midfield a great deal and would likely mean a further signing is needed.
