Barron shows he can handle weight of Rangers jersey in 'that's not my job' boast

Rangers will need to shop local this summer or, at least, sign players who improve the home-grown quota for European competition.

Philippe Clement cut a frustrated figure last season when he had key players sitting at home because of the problem he inherited.

The first Scot signed this summer was Connor Barron with Liam Kelly not far behind with the former explaining why he made the move to Rangers and why the Aberdeen boo-boys will be like water off a duck’s back.

Connor Barron shows Rangers mentality in press conference

The Scotland Under-21 was plucked from a potential Serie A transfer after Nils Koppen stepped in to bring the midfield dynamo to Ibrox and to join Clement’s squad revolution.

Speaking to the Scottish media Rangers TV, Barron displayed the kind of attitude that could make him a hit with the Light Blues support:

“As a player you’ve got to do things for yourself sometimes and you’ve got to do what’s best for your career at the right time.

“I pay my thanks to Aberdeen who’ve obviously brought me up from a boy to the player I am today. I thank them for everything they’ve done to help me get to here in my career, but the next chapter in my career now is Rangers.

All I do is focus on my job on the pitch. I don’t go on social media, that’s not my job – my job is to go on the pitch and perform and let the football do the talking.

“When you’re at a size of club like Rangers, that can’t get into your head. If it does then there’s a problem.”

Barron won’t be first Rangers star to be Dons abuse target

Barron will be able to lean on Ryan Jack for advice even if he has now packed up his locker at Auchenhowie.

It’s obvious to anyone with an impartial mind why the 21-year old has joined Rangers.

The stadium, the fanbase, the history, the plans to grow, to compete for trophies and being able to play regularly in Europe.

There is a big hole in midfield with Jack and John Lundstram away and Barron could surprise a few with how often he plays and the role that he is asked to play.

He is a front foot player, aggressive and hard working, the sort of profile that Rangers need in the engine room.

The shirt never shrinks to fit players who sign for Rangers but it doesn’t look like there will be any problems with Barron’s jersey.
