Rangers have unwanted rival in Rrahmani chase, fans won't want to hear who

Rangers hunt for a new number nine still continues with additions so far filling in holes in defence and midfield.

Hamza Igamane has all but been confirmed as Philippe Clement looks to bring more depth to the forward line with Cyriel Dessers also linked with a move away from Ibrox.

The top target appears to be Albion Rrahmani though with the Kosovo international the subject of intense speculation with Rangers having a surprise contender for his signature.

Albion Rrahmani deal could hinge on Rangers rivals

Speaking recently Rapid Bucharest president Viorel Moldovan confirmed via Romanian publication Orange Sport that Rapid have received an offer for the 23-year old hitman, however, it is one that falls short of their valuation:

“Rrahmani is a Rapid player. He is a high-quality footballer. We continue to rely on him. Yes, there is an offer for Rrahmani at the moment, but it is insufficient compared to his level and value,” Moldovan explained.

“I really want him to stay and help us achieve our goals.”

Rrahmani has also responded to speculation and is keen to focus on his current club despite having aspirations of playing at a higher level.

The 6ft 2 inch tall striker is in demand and Rangers News has learned that Celtic are also monitoring Rrahmani’s situation – Neil Lennon, coincidentally, is Rapid’s manager.

Like Clement with Dessers, Celtic are also waiting on other deals before they can make their move.

Oh Hyeon-gyu is predicted to leave with the Parkhead outfit’s preferred target being Adam Idah who impressed more for them than Fabio Silva did for Rangers after their respective loan spells.

Norwich City have had a change of manager though and a decision won’t be made on Idah’s future until Johannes Hoff Thorup has had a good look at him and seen the Republic of Ireland international in action.

Rrahmani could be final answer to Rangers striker search

This delay could give Rangers an advantage in the chase for Rrahmani’s signature.

The interest in Dessers and transfer requests suggests that the 29-year old will be leaving Rangers in the imminent future and that whatever his sale brings in will be used to replace him.

Two seasons in a row Rangers have bought and sold a central striker after seeing them hit a decent goal return.

This summer, the manager needs to get this right and make sure that they are the perfect fit for his squad and playing style.

Rrahmani is perfect because he is versatile, capable of scoring any type of goal and can lead the line on his own.

For £5m, he would be worth every penny, if Rangers can get their first.
