As part of a Washington Post recounting of the many evasions Donald Trump used to avoid answering questions at Thursday night's debate with President Joe Biden, one former senior Trump White House aide expressed frustration with the aftermath where little to no attention is being paid to the former president's lies and "insane" comments.

As the Washington Post's Josh Dawsey wrote, "Much of the focus of Thursday’s debate focused on Biden’s confusing and meandering answers, and the ensuing panic his weak performance caused among Democratic officeholders, donors and operatives," before adding, "As for Trump, however, he repeatedly evaded topics he was not interested in speaking about, following the advice of advisers who encouraged him to move the conversation to friendlier ground such as immigration and the economy."

With Dawsey writing that the now convicted felon ex-president, "...often says whatever he likes no matter the question and bulldozes interviewers with long answers, including myriad topic changes and falsehoods," Sarah Matthews, a former spokesperson in the Trump White House, expressed her dismay that Biden was not up to the task of putting her former boss on the spot.

As she told the Post, Biden was “not equipped to call out Trump. He wasn’t up to the job … He failed miserably. It was his job to do it, and he couldn’t.”

That failure, she noted, was pivotal to Trump being considered the winner of the debate which she found to be infuriating.

“It’s so crazy we aren’t talking about Trump’s insane responses he gave or his inability to answer the questions he was asked because we are all talking about Biden’s poor performance,” explained Matthews,“If any other Democrat was up onstage, the contrast would have been very clear.”
