'Ready to sell him': £21m reported Liverpool target now set to leave club 'in the next days' - Fabrizio Romano

Things should start to liven up for Liverpool in the transfer market over the coming weeks.

The Reds have so far been incredibly quiet in the window as they begin their transition to the Arne Slot era.

Luckily, there isn’t too much work that needs doing to the Liverpool squad. Nevertheless, the new head coach will likely want one or two additions before the market shuts in August.

The European Championship and the Copa America have stifled the chance to get deals done early, but with both competitions set to end by July 15th, Liverpool need to start preparing.

Things took a turn for the better on Saturday, with reports that Liverpool have been in talks over a move for Anthony Gordon. And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, another reported target will be changing clubs soon, too.

With Newcastle flying close to the wind in terms of complying with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, Gordon could be sold before the end of Sunday.

While negotiations between the Reds and Newcastle appear to have stalled for now, there have been claims that Liverpool could come back in for Gordon over the weekend.

The 23-year-old would be a really exciting signing for Slot. However, the new head coach does need to address his defence as a matter of greater urgency.

Having seen Joel Matip leave Anfield at the end of the season, Liverpool are one short at the back.

Plenty of players have been linked in order to plug the gap left by Matip, with Leny Yoro one of those most frequently mentioned.

Another to have been put forward as a potential target has been Juventus centre-back Dean Huijsen. Together, Yoro and Huijsen could dominate for 10 years or more at Liverpool.

According to Romano though, if the Reds are to sign the Spain U21 international then they’re going to have to move quick. Taking to X on Saturday, the journalist said Huijsen will leave Juve ‘in the next days.’

“Dean Huijsen, still expected to leave Juventus in the next days as price tag will be around €25m [£21m] plus add-ons,” says Romano. “There’s interest from several clubs with Juve ready to sell him, waiting for the best proposal.”

Liverpool should make Dean Huijsen approach

What Liverpool need in terms of centre-back right now is someone who can come in and compete with Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

They shouldn’t be looking for someone to arrive and be an instant starter. Konate and Van Dijk are a superb pairing who should be the first-choice.

But with Konate’s injury issues, Liverpool need a reliable third choice who can then potentially grow into taking over from Van Dijk.

Jarell Quansah can be that player, but the Reds should be looking at another option, too.

At just 18, Huijsen really is an incredible talent. For the price-tag Juventus are looking for, Liverpool should solidify their interest and get the Spaniard wrapped up.

It’s getting towards crunch time, let’s see how the Reds now react.
