'What I'm hearing': Fabrizio Romano shares what he's now been told about Anthony Gordon and Liverpool

Speculation has begun doing the rounds claiming Liverpool have been in talks over Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

For instance, the Daily Mail reported that the Reds hold an interest in the Magpies star, who is currently away at Euro 2024.

However, talks apparently broke down due to Liverpool’s reluctance to consider sending defender Jarell Quansah the other way as part of a swap deal.

Newcastle reportedly need to make sales before 30 June to avoid falling foul of profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and a potential points deduction.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on the state of play involving Newcastle, Liverpool and Gordon.

Fabrizio Romano says Anthony Gordon open to Liverpool move

The transfer insider, speaking on his YouTube channel, claimed that the Reds have considered the possibility of signing the 23-year-old.

In addition, Romano said he’s heard that Gordon would indeed be open to a move to Liverpool.

This means it’s now a case of the clubs needing to come to an agreement, concluded the Italian.

“Liverpool really considered that possibility,” said Romano. “They had the discussion with Newcastle about Anthony Gordon.

“At the moment, there is still no agreement on the value of the player, on how much Newcastle would require to sell the player, but for sure, the interest is genuine.

“And what I am hearing is that the player would be open to a move to Liverpool. So, it really depends on the clubs.”

Developments could be on the cards on PSR ‘deadline day’

PSR regulations have led to a somewhat extraordinary ‘deadline day’ of sorts on Sunday 30 June, as some clubs look to sell players to stay on the right side of regulations.

With regards to players Newcastle would be willing to sell, Gordon wouldn’t have seemed like someone near the top of the list, considering what a top talent he is.

However, there could yet be more developments on this front between now and the weekend, so it’s very much a case of watch this space.
