Sources - Brentford persuade Leeds starlet Archie Gray to reject Europe's elite and join them

Leeds United are losing their prized asset Archie Gray, but he destination is not the outcome many expected.

HITC revealed on Friday that the feeling amongst Gray’s suitors was that he was attainable and that has now proven to be the case.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham were all in contention along with German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.

Archie Gray set to seal Premier League move

However, sources have confirmed to HITC that Brentford have now won the battle to land Gray, following talks with his camp.

Gray leans heavily on his family which is steeped footballing tradition. His father Andy, grandfather Frank and great Uncle Eddie – were all former Leeds player and former Scotland internationals.

Whilst 19-year-old Gray followed the family tradition of coming through the Elland Road system, he is representing England at international level and not Scotland.

Gray is understood to have consulted his family before deciding that the best option for him was to move to West London with Thomas Frank and Brentford.

Brentford have now progressed with talks with Leeds and a deal with worth around £35million is understood to have been agreed.

Leeds had to cash in on Archie Gray due to Profit and Sustainability issues

Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe previously admitted that the club’s failure in the Championship play-offs could cost them in the future, which has proven the case with Gray.

Marathe confirmed Profit and Sustainability rules were an issue for the club.

“We have the funds we need to do what we need, but there will need to be some trade-offs because of [profit and sustainability rules],” Marathe told BBC Sport.

“It is not just outs, it is ins as well, looking at scouting possibilities, but we need to make trade-offs. I can’t talk about specific players right now, it is too early.

“There are certain things we need to do and we will make sure we are fully compliant with P and S [profit and sustainability] as we always have been. We’ll have to get back to the drawing board and see what deals we need to do.”
