Report: Sheffield Wednesday approach Champions League club over 'magnificent' player who Rohl admires

Sheffield Wednesday have enjoyed an exciting week as they close in on their fifth summer signing.

The Owls confirmed the arrival of Svante Ingelsson over the weekend and are now nearing a deal for Jamal Lowe, who has already had a medical at the club.

The attacker is an impressive signing for Sheffield Wednesday, having picked up 12 goal contributions last term and caught the eye of Ipswich, Norwich, Middlesbrough and others.

Wednesday look to be making massive changes to their squad, with the improvements far from complete.

With Ian Poveda yet to return to the club, Danny Rohl’s side are now beginning to make plans for their new-look attack.

Sheffield Wednesday approach Rangers star

With the signing of Lowe pending, Daily Record have now reported that Wednesday have also registered their interest in Rangers winger Scott Wright.

The ‘magnificent’ 26-year-old joined Rangers in 2021 and has scored 12 goals in 117 matches, as well as starting in the Europa League final two years ago.

Wright has fallen out of favour under current manager Philippe Clement though, starting only seven games in the Scottish Premiership last season.

With a year left on his contract, Rangers are open to selling the Scot and the Owls are ready to snap him up.

Rohl is said to be an ‘admirer’ of Wright and could hand him the chance to revive his career in the Championship.

Can Danny Rohl transform Scott Wright?

Wright has struggled to nail down a consistent spot in Rangers’ starting line-up since joining the club in 2021, while he has never netted more than four goals in a league campaign.

The winger has shown glimpses of promise for the Scottish giants though and could perhaps find some form if given a run of games at Hillsborough.

Rohl has already proven that he can turn struggling players around and will be eager to replicate his success with Poveda.

It might not be a signing that excites Wednesday fans as much as Lowe or Yan Valery, but it could be a project worth sticking around for.
