'Combative' midfielder profiled as Danny Rohl targets Sheffield Wednesday's fourth summer signing

Sheffield Wednesday have been very busy in the transfer window and don’t look to be stopping anytime soon.

The Owls have already snapped up Max Lowe and Ben Hamer on free transfers, before luring Yan Valery from French club Angers.

With the futures of Di’Shon Bernard, Dominic Iorfa and Josh Windass yet to be decided, it may make Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer dealings a little tricky.

However, it does look like they could potentially be planning for life without Windass in their latest pursuit.

Reports this week have claimed that the Yorkshire outfit are targeting German third division club Hansa Rostock’s Svante Ingelsson.

The midfielder is free to leave Rostock for absolutely nothing this summer, following their relegation from the second tier.

Svante Ingelsson career so far

Ingelsson began his career in his native Sweden, spending ten years at IFK Berga before joining Kalmar FF.

He went onto make his debut in 2015 and racked up 53 appearances before earning himself a move to Udinese in Serie A.

Ingelsson struggled for game time in Udine though and was went out on loan to Pescara, Kalmar FF and SC Paderborn.

The midfielder’s success came once he had moved to Germany, making 32 appearances in 2. Bundesliga for Paderborn.

He then caught the eye of Hansa Rostock, who had just been promoted to the second division.

Since joining the club for around £500,000 in 2021, Ingelsson has been a vital part of the squad, picking up 16 goal contributions in 87 matches.

Dutch website Nordkurier recently labelled him as ‘indispensable’ to Hansa Rostock.

Svante Ingelsson to Sheffield Wednesday analysis

According toBarometern Sporten, Inglesson is 50th in 2. Bundesliga for distance covered, 15th for sprints and 43rd for intensive runs.

The midfielder is a player who will get himself all over the pitch and make himself useful on the attack and defence, while getting stuck in. He is a ‘combative’ figure, having picked up 19 yellow cards for Hansa Rostock.

While he often plays further up the pitch, Inglesson’s height and strength comes in very handy. He outnumbers many players in his position in the air, as well as making tackles and clearances.

He is also affective in progressive passes, with stats suggesting he plays a similar role to Callum Paterson.

Sheffield Wednesday desperately need to bolster their midfield after a summer clear-out, while adding som creativity is also important.

Ingelsson’s stats aren’t amazing, having scored once in each of his three league campaigns in Rostock.

However, he does provide the work-rate, strength and height needed in the middle of the pitch, as well as in both boxes.

On a free transfer it could definitely be worth a punt, withDanny Rohl clearly a fan of him.
