Report: Liverpool could now give up chase for Teun Koopmeiners and sign ‘world-class’ Euro 2024 star instead

Liverpool look set to bolster their midfield once again this summer after the arrival of Arne Slot.

The Reds invested significantly in the middle of the park last year after the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo all arrived as Jurgen Klopp refreshed his options.

Liverpool are still lacking depth at the base of midfield though and have been linked with a move for Slot’s compatriot Teun Koopmeiners.

Indeed, it was claimed just last month that Liverpool were leading the race to sign Koopmeiners. But with interest from Juventus in the Atalanta midfielder growing, the Reds could switch their focus to another option in midfield.

Liverpool could target Joshua Kimmich over Koopmeiners

TuttoJuve has shared the latest on Joshua Kimmich’s future as he prepares for a possible departure from Bayern Munich this summer.

Liverpool view Kimmich as a ‘key’ target and feel he could provide real balance in midfield.

The German international can also play at right-back, which would provide Slot with another top-quality option alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold.

They will face competition from the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City. But the outlet notes that Liverpool could drop their interest in Koopmeiners and move for Kimmich instead.

Kimmich open to Liverpool move

With Kimmich looking set to leave Bayern this summer, the ‘world-class’ midfielder has reportedly decided on the clubs he’d be open to joining.

Liverpool are among the options he’s decided on, with the list including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and Arsenal.

The 29-year-old is currently at Euro 2024 with Germany and played the full 90 minutes as Julian Nagelsmann’s men booked their place in the quarter-final with a 2-0 win over Denmark last night.

With just a year left on his current deal at Bayern, Kimmich is likely to be available at a cut price this summer, which makes him an intriguing option for the likes of Liverpool.
