‘4/10’: £15m Tottenham player looked absolutely ‘exhausted’ at Euro 2024 yesterday

Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg suffered heartache on Saturday as Denmark crashed out of Euro 2024.

The Danes headed into the last-16 clash against hosts Germany as huge underdogs and the task proved too much for them on the night.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Denmark will feel slightly hard done by though after Joachim Andersen had an effort ruled out due to a marginal offside.

Just minutes after Denmark thought they had opened the scoring, Andersen was penalised for handball, which led to Kai Havertz opening the scoring from 12 yards out.

Jamal Musiala put the game beyond doubt just 15 minutes later as Hojbjerg and Denmark failed to recover from an eventful few minutes.

And after an early Euro 2024 exit, the Danish media were far from impressed with Hojbjerg’s display in the middle of the park, claiming the Tottenham midfielder looked fatigued during the defeat to Germany.

Danish media react to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s display vs Germany

TV 2 Sport handed the Spurs star a five out 10 rating and claimed he failed to assert himself in the middle of the park.

The outlet wrote: “Has run many meters at the EC final round and seemed exhausted at the end. Couldn’t establish himself in midfield like on his best days.”

DR were slightly less forgiving and rated Hojbjerg’s performance a four. The outlet noted that Hojbjerg didn’t enjoy his best evening as he struggled to produce the type of performance he managed against England in the group stages.

“If we really had a good chance against Germany, we should have won the game in central midfield. But it wasn’t Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s best game. He didn’t hit the level he did in the game against England, where he really dominated,” they wrote.

“There were situations where the ball jumped away from him a bit, or where the pass didn’t sit right in his shoe.”

Hojbjerg’s Euro 2024 displays a positive for Spurs

Despite an underwhelming display against Germany last night, Hojbjerg was among Denmark’s standout players in the group stages.

The £15 million man was particularly excellent in the 1-1 draw with England and this should only boost his chances of securing a decent move this summer.

Borussia Dortmund are the latest club to be linked with Hojbjerg and it’s no secret that the midfielder looks set to head out the door.
