Liverpool player ‘working on’ getting better after what happened at Euro 2024

Liverpool were very well represented in the early stages of Euro 2024, with 10 Anfield stars in Germany for the competition.

There have, however, already been casualties, with Andy Robertson, Dominik Szoboszlai and Vitezslav Jaros suffering early exits.

Robertson finished bottom of Group A with Scotland, with Jaros finishing bottom of Group F with the Czech Republic.

Szoboszlai meanwhile helped Hungary finish third in Group A, but their efforts were not enough to land a last 16 spot.

The players will be gutted, with Robertson apologising after Scotland’s struggles, but Arne Slot will be quietly delighted.

Virgil van Dijk opens up on Euro 2024 struggles

The new Liverpool manager will want his key men playing as little competitive football as possible after a busy season.

But unfortunately several Anfield players remain in the competition, one of which is captain Virgil van Dijk.

The defender guided his nation into the knockout stages, although admits there is room for improvement after they finished third in Group D.

“I’m not stupid,” said Van Dijk, as quoted by BBC Sport. “I also know that I can do better and that it should be better, and that’s what I’m working on.”

Which other Liverpool players remain at Euro 2024?

Van Dijk is clearly going to be a key player under Slot next season, with the new boss calling the defender first up after landing the job.

The Netherlands men should have good chemistry at Anfield, with the manager undoubtedly wanting Van Dijk and his entire Liverpool squad back together as soon as possible ahead of the new season.

The centre-back faces Romania in the last 16 alongside Netherlands teammates Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch.

His fellow defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez also remain in Germany with England, with Ibrahima Konate and Diogo Jota also still at Euro 2024 with France and Portugal respectively.

There is, of course, also Copa America for Slot to worry about, with Alexis Mac Allister, Alisson, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez all at the major tournament.
