‘In the last 48 hours’: Alasdair Gold shares what he’s heard about Jacob Ramsey after claims Tottenham bid for him

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a move for Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey in recent days.

Tottenham’s interest dates back to January as Ange Postecoglou’s side weighed up a move for the midfielder.

Jacob Ramsey is coming off a difficult season at Villa Park after featuring just 16 times in the Premier League due to injuries.

But the 23-year-old is attracting interest from Spurs this summer, with technical director Johan Lange said to be a huge fan of the player.

Of course, Lange previously worked at Villa before sealing a move to Tottenham in November last year and Postecoglou also reportedly views Ramsey as an ideal fit for his system.

There is confidence on Spurs’ side that a deal can be struck for Ramsey after claims an opening bid was knocked back by Unai Emery’s men.

Now, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has shared the latest on Tottenham’s interest in the Villa academy product.

Aston Villa soften Ramsey transfer stance

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, Gold stated that Ramsey was previously viewed as a player who is not for sale by Villa.

But over the past couple of days, there has been a ‘growing feeling’ that he could be available for the right price.

“Spurs, I think, have made enquiries about him, it will all be through representatives and about just whether that injury-hit season has made Villa think twice about it,” the journalist said.

“In January, they very much wanted to keep him and I think suggestions of a bid seemed a little premature, from what I understand. That’s been played down on both sides.”

“What I do know is that the initial indications were that he was absolutely not for sale, that was that,” Gold added. “From what I understand, in the last 48 hours or so, there has been a bit of a loosening in that. Potentially, there is a growing feeling he could be available for between £40 million and £50 million.”

Ramsey’s injury record may be a concern for Spurs

Ramsey missed a total of 27 games through injury last season and such problems proved to be a huge problem for Postecoglou.

Injuries to key stars such as Micky van de Ven and James Maddison led to Spurs losing momentum after such a bright start.

With that being said, before last season Ramsey had missed just four games through injury during his Villa career.

It was something of a nightmare campaign for the Englishman last time out but should Tottenham firm up their interest, it would be clear they have little concern over his recent struggles with injuries.
