Roy Keane says 'talented' Arsenal star must ‘master’ one thing to live up to his true potential

Iconic former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has now told one Arsenal star that he needs to take a step forward in his game.

Roy Keane has now given his verdict on what one Arsenal player must do to take his game to the next level.

In his time as Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has improved plenty of players. The likes of Gabriel Magalhaes, Ben White, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Declan Rice, amongst others, have come on leaps and bounds since the Spaniard took charge at the Emirates Stadium.

For instance, Rice has discussed how Arteta has encouraged him to adopt a more advanced role for Arsenal. This led to the 25-year-old midfielder enjoying a career-best season in front of goal for the Gunners last time out.

Kai Havertz is another player who has grown during his time in North London so far. After a tricky start to his Arsenal career, the German exploded into life around the turn of the year, when Arteta made him the Gunners’ first-choice centre forward.

Havertz shone as a striker for Arsenal, and is now routinely leading the line for his nation at Euro 2024. However, Keane is insistent that there is still one key ingredient missing from the 25-year-old’s game.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane urges Arsenal ace Kai Havertz to specialise

Havertz has moved around the pitch when it comes to his starting position throughout his career. He certainly boasts a level of versatility that makes him useful to managers, but has also perhaps hindered his own progress in some ways.

Arteta attempted to reinvent Havertz as a midfielder when he first came to Arsenal, he has even recently been deployed as a left-back on the international stage. At this stage in his career, the former Chelsea man needs to settle and nail down a position as his own.

That is certainly Keane’s stance. Speaking on ITV (29/06/2024, 20:52), the former midfielder said: “He has scored a lot of big goals for his country and obviously for Chelsea and Arsenal. He is a top player. Again, maybe be a bit of Jack of all trades master of none, he has got to find that position where you can hang your hat week in week out, but he is certainly a talented boy.”

Gary Lineker believes that Havertz has now established himself as a striker. The starting berth in that position at Arsenal is certainly now his to lose. However, he needs to keep impressing if he is to avoid being deployed elsewhere again in future.

There was some talk about the members of the Arsenal squad currently on a surprise training camp with Mikel Arteta in Marbella, as well as a brief look at how Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli are getting on at the Copa America with Brazil.
