The latest Newcastle United transfer update could speed up Celtic's solution to a problem position - opinion

The transfer window always keeps the Celtic fans sitting on the edge of their seats and their fingers constantly hitting that refresh button on their browsers as they wait for any impending new signing announcement from the club.

With the big season kick-off just over five weeks away, the lack of new faces at the club could very well be starting to worry the Celtic fans after they remained patient while the Euros played out.

Now that the tournament is nearing its end and eliminated countries head home, the Hoops support will be expecting some progress in the transfer department.

And that progress could very well get a shove in the right direction after the latest transfer update from none other than Premier League club, Newcastle United.

Martin Dubravka and Celtic

Martin Dubravka has been linked to Celtic since the beginning of this month. After being told he could leave Newcastle this summer, the Slovakian international was using the Euros to showcase his skills to earn his next move.

And that move could be coming closer after Sky Sports reporter, Keith Downie, announced that The Magpies are in talks to sign Nottingham Forest stopper, Odysseas Vlachodimos.

So why should this make much difference to Celtic? You might well remember how we discussed Newcastle’s need to meet the English FA’s Financial Fair Play rules two weeks ago.

We spoke to football finance expert, Adam Williams, who explained that because of FFP, Celtic could get Dubravka for as little as £1m.

If the Premier League club is successful in signing Vlachodimos, that would mean that the need to get Dubravka off the books will become more apparent as he falls further down the pecking order.

And if Celtic still hold interest in the 35-year-old, Newcastle could be willing to offload Dubravka sooner rather than later.

No doubt this is a rumour that is set to rumble on as Brendan Rodgers still looks for the successor to popular former Celtic hero, Joe Hart.
