Report: Wolves submitted bid for another 'special' La Liga striker before Strand Larsen, he has 25 G/A

Wolves reportedly made a bid to sign another La Liga striker, before recently reaching an agreement to land Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Wanderers have been active so far this summer and earlier this week, fans were delighted as reports surfaced that the club had struck a deal with Celta Vigo to sign Strand Larsen.

Strand Larsen is set to complete an initial loan move to Molineux.

Supposedly, this move will turn permanent if he makes a certain amount of appearances. The total package of the deal is thought to be worth around £25 million.

Gary O’Neil looks like he will finally sign the striker he’s been craving. But an interesting claim has now been made by an outlet in Spain.

Strand Larsen is expected to complete his move to Wolves on either Monday or Tuesday.

The Norway international, who has been backed to succeed in the Premier League by Rafa Benitez, could become either the club’s third or fourth addition of the window, depending on when Pedro Lima gets announced.

The young Brazilian full-back is now in England to finalise his move from Sport Recife.

Wolves have already announced the signings of Rodrigo Gomes and Tommy Doyle.

The Strand Larsen story really came out of the blue earlier this week and fans can’t wait to get a glimpse of him.

But in a parallel universe, Wolves might have been welcoming another centre-forward this summer instead of Strand Larsen.

It has been claimed by Vamos Mi Sevilla that Wolves did actually make a bid for Sevilla striker Isaac Romero, who scored 17 goals across all competitions in 2023/24.

He actually started the season playing for Sevilla Atletico, which is Sevilla’s B team, before being promoted to the first-team in January of this year. Six of his 17 goals came for the first-team in 16 appearances.

On top of his 17 goals, he also provided eight assists in 2023/24 (four for the B team, four for the first-team), meaning an impressive 25 goal involvements for him in total.

Romero though, was not keen to leave Sevilla and ended up signing a new contract recently. This is despite Wolves apparently offering the player a much higher salary. His new contract now includes a £25 million release clause.

Strand Larsen an exciting capture

So Wolves supposedly wanted Romero at one stage, so it will now be interesting to see how both players fare in 2024/25.

Romero had a good season last time out, and has clearly been on a fairly impressive trajectory to have been promoted to the Sevilla first-team and then scored six goals for them.

Earlier this year he was the subject of a feature from The Guardian and was described as ‘a bit special’ and ‘a natural finisher with something pure’. He is also said to idolise former Wolves striker Diego Costa.

But Wolves can be fairly pleased with the business they are doing for Strand Larsen, who has more experience of first-team football.

Strand Larsen looks to be a player who could be really well suited to the Premier League with his pace and power, and potentially he could be a really good foil for Matheus Cunha up top.
