Rangers Eredivisie transfer rumour leaves ex-Netherlands international scratching his head

Everybody loves a good Rangers transfer rumour during the summer window.

Every year we get a host of names who originate from group chats, online forums, social media platforms, questionable journalists and – occasionally – legitimate sources.

But such is the nature of the transfer beast, in the age of social media these rumours can quickly make their way up the chain at either the buying or selling club.

And that’s exactly what appears to have happened as one Rangers rumour which originates from social media is quickly shut down by a very familiar sporting director.

Hilgers to Rangers claims shot down

Rangers fans might not have heard of Mees Hilgers before whispers of interest spread on social media over the weekend.

The FC Twente defender, 23, impressed in the Eredivisie last season and helped his side to a 3rd place finish in the Dutch top flight.

Rumours spread online that Rangers were interested in the defender and – whilst we cannot confirm nor deny this at present – the chatter has reached the shores of the Netherlands.

In fact, FC Twente’s sporting director and former Dutch international Arnold Bruggink has even been quizzed on the reported interest, which before now hadn’t even made a newspaper headline.

According to Twente Site, Bruggink has claimed that whilst Rangers may well be interested, as things stand there haven’t been any bids from Ibrox.

Moreover, the PSV icon claims that he ‘knows nothing’ about potential Rangers interest in the defender.

The power of the internet, eh?

Ibrox targeting experienced transfers

Rangers fans are eager to see the club make new additions with pre-season already underway, the Champions League qualifiers on the horizon and Ibrox, well the less said about the situation at Ibrox the better.

There are some nerves about the situation as Rangers sign a number of inexperienced if not talented players having lost plenty of experience in the summer.

With huge pressure riding on the season and plenty of uncertainty on and off the pitch, Clement has claimed experience is on the way in the coming weeks.

“We had five players going out of the building at end of contract, so we didn’t get any money in, we lost five players,” Clement told RangersTV.

“But at the moment, we were focussed on everything but it was easier to get the young players in but, as for the transfer window, there will also be experience coming into the building.

“We need a good balance to the squad in the team of both but it was important to find these young talents and they are a few exciting talents for the future.”
