Forget Sane and Musiala, another Germany Euro 2024 star would solve a lot of problems at Arsenal

Arsenal have shown an interest in signing a number of German players and have had significant success with players of that nationality representing the club in recent years.

Several members of the Germany squad that won the 2014 World Cup represented Arsenal at some point in their careers, such as Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker, Shkodran Mustafi, and Lukas Podolski.

Mertesacker remains at the club as head of the academy, whilst the current German national side are represented in North London by Kai Havertz, who is now leading the line for the host nation at Euro 2024.

Of Havertz’s international teammates, Arsenal would surely be strengthened by the arrival of Jamal Musiala. The Gunners were also hurt by Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane in the Champions League last season.

Both players would represent exciting arrivals at the Emirates Stadium. However, there is another member of the current Germany squad who Mikel Arteta ought to seriously consider making a move to sign this summer.

Why Arsenal should swoop for Maximilian Mittelstadt this summer rather than Jamal Musiala or Leroy Sane

The Gunners currently have an issue on the left-hand-side of the pitch. Arsenal are keen to sign a left-back this summer, and Arteta should seriously consider Mittelstadt as a contender to take up that role in his squad.

The 27-year-old left-back would help to solve a number of existing issues at the Emirates Stadium.

First of all, the 7-cap international is an excellent player in his own right, and plays in a position where Arteta clearly feels that he lacks strong options. Mittelstadt offers experience and defensive know-how, but is still only just coming into the prime years of his career.

Why Arsenal signing Mittelstadt would be good news for Gabriel Martinelli

The Stuttgart star also offers plenty going forwards too. Whilst he is a fairly traditional full-back, and naturally left-footed, and excels in pressing forward up the touchline and delivering into the box, he is also good enough on the ball to come in-field and contribute to the build-up play in the middle of the park.

Mittelstadt’s presence at Arsenal would provide a huge boost for Gabriel Martinelli, who suffered due to the absence of a settled left-back to support him last season. The Brazilian and the German possess the ingredients required to build a fruitful partnership, which should help the Arsenal winger to get back to his best.
