Gers could get bumper Ligue 1 payday two years on from £10m deal’s collapse - report

Rangers’ player trading model is the talk of the Ibrox steamie this summer.

The Gers’ ineffective trading in the transfer market has heaped the pressure on Philippe Clement & co as their much-anticipated rebuild gets underway.

Rangers have just seen a number of key assets walk out the door for nothing over the last 24 months as Filip Helander, Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe, Borna Barisic and John Lundstram all leave without so much as banking the club a penny.

But one player who did recoup Rangers around 100 times what the club paid for him could be on the move to Ligue 1 this summer

And Rangers could be about to receive a pretty penny too almost two years on from the collapse of a £10m transfer deal which would’ve taken him to France.

Kamara Ligue 1 deal being ‘explored’

Ex-Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara always did seem destined for the big leagues.

There was a moment in the Finnish international’s Rangers career that it felt like nothing could stop Kamara as he became a key component of Steven Gerrard’s team.

But after the Scouser left, and so did close friends Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey, something certainly changed for Kamara in Glasgow.

Eventually sold to Leeds United in a £5m deal last summer, Rangers recouped 100x the £50k they paid Dundee to bring the midfielder to Ibrox.

Rangers also managed to insert a promotion clause into the player’s contract – something Leeds narrowly missed out on this season – whilst the deal is believed to also boast a sell-on.

And now the Ibrox side could be about to bank some more cash too amid reports Glen Kamara is a target for a leading club in Ligue 1.

Ex-Rangers star wanted in France

After a stellar first season in the English Championship with Leeds United, Glen Kamara could be on the move again this summer.

With the Elland Road club narrowly missing out on promotion, L’Equipe in France are now reporting that Stade Rennais are interested in the 28-year-old midfielder.

Whilst it’s not clear how much Rennes would have to pay for Kamara, the French club have seen their transfer coffers boosted by a number of high profile sales this summer.

As a result the Ligue 1 side are said to be ‘exploring’ a deal for the Finnish international, who made 40 Championship appearances last season.

If a deal goes through then Rangers stand to bank some of the profit on any transfer and it’s a potentially welcome boost to the club’s bank balance.

Interestingly, it’s not the first time Glen Kamara has been linked with a move to France either.

Back in 2022 a late window £10m deal to take Kamara to OGC Nice collapsed at the final furlong.
