Fabrizio Romano shares what Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was telling PIF this weekend

Newcastle United may have somehow managed to keep a hold of their very best players.

Indeed, the likes of Keith Downie have suggested Newcastle should be on track to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

That’s not to say it was easy, however.

They have reluctantly agreed to sell Yankuba Minteh, who seems set to move to Brighton.

Elliot Anderson was someone Eddie Howe reportedly wanted to keep but he looks ready to join Nottingham Forest.

The prospect of losing two young players who have some decent potential is obviously not ideal but, thankfully, it could mean keeping some of their biggest names – as well as avoiding a ten-point deduction.

Anthony Gordon, for example, was being linked with a move to Liverpool as the club looked to raise funds.

Alexander Isak was also wanted by Chelsea, who are thought to have been prepared to offer players in part-exchange for his services.

However, with Newcastle hopefully through the worst of it, better days could yet be on the way.

Now, some insight into what Howe was telling owners PIF during a few days of frantic transfer action has emerged.

Eddie Howe was telling PIF not to sell one Newcastle player this weekend

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Howe was making it clear to Newcastle’s owners that he did not want Isak sold.

“Another big name at Newcastle who’s made the headlines is Alexander Isak, but nothing is happening with Chelsea,” he told his Daily Briefing, which was published by CaughtOffside.

“We know that Chelsea appreciate this talented striker, but it’s almost impossible because Newcastle want to keep him, and I’ve been told that Eddie Howe, over the weekend, was very clear with the Newcastle board and owners about not wanting Isak to leave the club.”

Before the PSR-centred transfer rumours went into overdrive, there was actually some positive news in regards to Isak’s future at Newcastle.

GIVEMESPORT claimed the club were confident the 24-year-old would sign a new deal, having been looking for assurances that Newcastle matched his ambition.
