Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Newcastle are about to make their second signing of the summer

It’s been a hectic start to the summer for Newcastle United.

While they have only actually made one signing in the form of Lloyd Kelly, there were pursuits of a number of other players.

Indeed, Newcastle reportedly remain interested in a move for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, having lost out to Chelsea when attempting to sign Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer.

Michael Olise was said to be another target at St James’ Park but he will seemingly soon join Bayern Munich instead.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was also said to be closing in on a move to Eddie Howe’s side but that deal has since stalled due to concerns over his price tag.

A host of players are being linked away too. Callum Wilsonis believed to be the subject of interest from West Ham, while young Yankuba Minteh is thought to have a vast array of admirers.

Now, it seems Newcastle’s spending will continue, albeit perhaps not on the biggest name they’re being linked with.

Fabrizio Romano, as ever, has the details.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Newcastle are about to make their second signing of the summer

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Romano revealed that Newcastle were set to sign Serbian youngster Miodrag Pivas.

A deal is believed to be close and could be wrapped up imminently, though no further details are shared.

Who is Newcastle transfer target Miodrag Pivas?

According to Transfermarkt data, the 19-year-old has played in a number of different roles for current club, Jedinstvo Ub.

The teenager has operated as both a central defender and a defensive midfielder during his career thus far and, standing at 6’2, looks a reasonably imposing figure.

It would be unlikely to imagine Pivas playing in the first-team regularly anytime soon but perhaps he’s viewed as one for the future at the club.

If not, selling on at some point may help with FFP – as is seemingly the case with Minteh.
