Report: 'Shining light' set to leave Championship rivals as a free agent after links with Leeds United

Leeds United are likely to delve into the free agent market this summer in order to maintain a profit as The 49ers look to balance the books, and one player they could sign is set to become available.

With Leeds owing a whole heap of cash in player transfers, the club need to maintain a profit in the eyes of Profit & Sustainability Rules. The sale of Archie Gray is set to prevent an incoming points deduction.

In terms of incomings and signing replacements for those who are expected to leave, or have already left, the club need to keep the expenditure small in order to maintain the profit made from selling key players.

On Sunday, West Ham confirmed that one player linked with Leeds in Ben Johnson will walk away from the club as a free agent. Now, another player eyed by Leeds is reportedly to set to be available on a free.

‘Shining light’ set to become a free agent after links with Leeds

Described as a “shining light” by Micah Richards in the past, Sheffield United striker Daniel Jebbison was one player that Chris Wilder had hoped to keep hold of this summer after the club were relegated.

The Canada forward’s stats are hardly eye-catching, with just three goals in 35 Sheffield United games but injury has hampered his progress and affected his chances of maximising his initially huge potential.

Graeme Bailey recently told LeedsUnited.News that Gretar Steinsson really likes the look of Jebbison and now, Sky Sports deliver an update. They say Jebbison has rejected a new deal and will be a free agent.

Jebbison could swap places with a Leeds player in same boat

Like Jebbison, there are a handful of Leeds players that have seen their contracts expire over the weekend. Most notably, Ian Poveda, Jamie Shackleton and Liam Cooper are now all out of contract.

Shackleton is perhaps a surprising one given his age and that he offers plenty of versatility, a player liked by Daniel Farke. Reports say he could move to Sheffield United on a free transfer in the coming days.

It would see Shackleton and Jebbison swap clubs in very similar circumstances. Sheffield United though would be due some compensation from Leeds, having attempted to expect his contract as required.
